What does blogging involve?

Posted by Miss W. on May 22, 2009

Most students now in the middle school have their own blog.  There is a link on the sidebar blogroll to all these blogs.

But what does it mean to have a blog?

A blog is a way to engage in a written conversation with other people around the world. If you visit any of our blogs and leave a comment about a post, you will be beginning a conversation with that student. There might be five or six students leaving comments so you might want to leave comments for them as well.  If you write @Miss W. or whoever the name is, they will know you are writing to them rather than the writer of the post.

But how do people know to visit your blog?

With over 70 million blogs in the world as at the beginning of 2008, there is very little chance of someone finding your blog so you have to get out there and advertise it.  You do this by having a user avatar and in your dashboard under users>your profile, have your blog’s URL as the primary one, eg http://sormid67.edublogs.org  but you put in yours. Then you get out and visit other blogs.

How do I find blogs to visit?

Once you start blogging regularly, a person usually puts in a blogroll on their sidebar.  This is a list of blogs they often visit.  On our middle school blog, there is a list of all the student blogs but there is also some other amazing blogs to visit.  Check some of these out because they will have other people listed in their blogrolls, so the number of blogs you can visit get bigger and bigger.
