Cyber safe presentations

Posted by Miss W. on 7th April 2010

At the beginning of term 2, students from Grades 6 and 7 will be expected to present their findings on being cyber safe to other students, especially to primary classes. So you have about 6 weeks to put together a presentation with 3 other students from your class.

Grade 6 students use these sources:

Grade 7 students use these sources:

Use bubbl.us to make notes and add to your blog – you may do this as an individual or as a group but you must embed your brainstorming/notes  into your blog before the end of term.

May use as many of these as you wish when creating your group presentation – negotiate with Miss W if you want to use other tools

Grade 6 checklist you might cover:

  • 13. Identify and consistently follow online etiquette (netiquette).
  • 14. Describe appropriate levels of personal information disclosure for specific online environments.
  • 18. Use a variety of devices to collect and share ideas and information ethically.
  • 19. Identify how ICT systems become infected with malware and describe how to reduce infection risks.

Grade 10 checklist you might  cover:

  • 13. Identify appropriate codes of conduct for ICT communications.
  • 14. Outline the forms that cyber crime can take and describe how to avoid being a victim.
  • 17. Enhance group work by using a range of collaborative software.
  • 19. Demonstrate understanding of network security risks, protection and prevention strategies.

How could we use Glogster?

Posted by Miss W. on 6th April 2010

On Twitter a few weeks ago, Glogster Edu was allowing educators to get 200 glogs with usernames and passwords. Naturally Miss W. took up the offer and registered our Middle School.

But you ask, what is a glog?

Well, to put it simply, it is an online poster that allows you to add links, drawings, images, decorations, videos and sound as well as adding decorations and changing fonts etc.

Here is a glog about Miss W.  Some of the images actually have links to take you to other parts of the web.

But, leave a comment here, saying how you think we could use glogster at school, not just in ICT.

Playing simulations

Posted by Miss W. on 9th July 2009

What is a simulation?

After you have played these games, you should be able to tell your teacher what it is.  Play two of these games at least twice each and write a post in your blog about what happened in the game. Completing this activity helps with the checklists for Inquiring 4 and 6

What type of choices did you make?

Were some choices better or worse?

What happened when ….?

Ayiti – family in Haiti

Stop disasters – can take a while to load

Refugees in Sudan – takes a while to load

Third world farmer

Sweatshop – in a shoe sweatshop

Expedition Africa – can take a while to load

Not quite a simulation but interesting historical websites with choices

20th century London

Over the top – in the trenches in WW1 – lots of reading

Check out the reviews from a couple of our grade 9/10 students.

Darcy  and  Kieron

Completing this activity helps with the checklists for Inquiring nos. 4 and 6
